Tripbod makes the grade: Voted #12 in Independent Top 50 Travel websites

We’re beaming like proud parents here at Tripbod HQ having been named #12 in theÂ IndependentÂ newspaper’s Top 50 Travel websites this weekend.

And we’re in great company – the extensive list covers everyone from big industry players Google maps and Twitter, right down to special interest travel sites like Go Learn to, Couch Surfing, and new site on the block, Local Okel.

We’re happy to see some of our favourite friends from the travel industry make the grade too: Green Traveller, One Fine Stay, Travel Rants and Mr & Mrs Smith would certainly all get our votes.

Tripbod stars in THack winning app & now features on TourSift

Tripbod sat on the judging panel for the first ever THack, sponsored by Expedia and Tnooz, last week.

Developers involved presented their winning apps live to an audience at Travel Tech Europe and we were delighted to discover that Tripbod data Â featured in five of the six apps presented, including the winning app from SITAlabs.

In just 10 days, developers had built an impressive array of apps – from voice recognition to inspirational search tools – using data made freely available from top travel industry brands including Expedia, Skyscanner, Frommers and of course Tripbod.Â Read more about THack on Tnooz

The winning hack from Â SITAlabs allows users to search for flights and local Tripbods on a mobile, simply by speaking into the handset – inspired by those times when you really want to plan your holidays but have both hands full.

(We’re not sure whether it was the tripbods or the twins which clinched it for all the judges.)

Paul Slugocki from TourCMS created a fantastic modular ad system for Tripbod services to run on other websites and showcased this on their bookings site TourSift:

TourCMS have decided to permanently integrate Tripbod on TourSift and so THack proved a double success for us – thanks Paul!

Tripbod voted in best 50 Real Travel websites 2011

Go team Tripbod! We’re delighted to feature in this month’s Real Travel Magazine top 50 travel websites for 2011.

We agree whole-heartedly with the editors who say ‘as all good globetrotters know, there’s no better source of accurate, up-to-date information than the local insider’.

Real Travel Magazine know the value of Tripbod local knowledge first-hand having connected with the wonderful Nepal Tripbod Raj on a recent trip to Asia and ‘were duly impressed with everything [the service] had to offer’.

We’re honoured to appear in the top 50 list alongside some of our favourite travel websites – including CouchSurfing and Sawdays – and some very inspirational features on everything from adventure travel in Costa Rica to the best cities for families.
