Food fuels travel memories – some mouth watering stories from Deborah in Lancashire

Our Tripbods are also great travellers – that’s what makes them so experienced and knowledgable. Debs was inspired by the recent Food & Travel webinar to share some of her best memories with us…

Seafood in Brittany

On holiday with my family in Brittany, went to the local, bog standard supermarket and ordered the seafood platter for 2 people. Hands down beat any seafood I have ever eaten before or since in London and the platter for 2 fed 5, plus the 2 campsite managers!

Pisco Mate in Chile

Spent an evening in Chile, drinking Pisco mate – a wicked combination of the local tea (made from Yierba Mate) with Pisco, a grappa brewed in the country, laced into the top. The combination of strong caffeine and strong liquor made Vodka Redbull look like something you would offer your granny!

Fishing and barbecuing in Chile

Also in Chile – we used to do a boat trip  on the Fjord and for lunch we would go to a farm, accessible only by boat or horse (no road) for traditional chilean barbecue – cooked in a pit in the ground, of layered chicken, fish, seafood, potato cakes, all layered with leaves and cooked over hot coals for 4 hours – the looks on the guest faces when it came out of the pit was always priceless (but it was always very tasty!)
Again in chile – we ran a camp on a river  and guests always fancied fishing but never caught anything. So I sent a friend down and challenged him to catch something, promising to cook anything they caught… I had to learn very quickly how to gut and prep trout when he came back with FIVE! We served them for dinner as a starter for clients, after grilling them on the BBQ (Asado in Chile)
